| Welcome to the Religious Action Network (RAN)
The Africa Action Religious Action Network (RAN) brings
together faith leaders from different races and cultures to work
for political, economic and social justice in Africa by changing
U.S. policies toward the continent.
RAN is an interfaith network of religious leaders and their communities
committed to shaping U.S. Africa relations by mobilizing a prophetic
witness committed to the social dimensions of religious teachings
and to organizing for justice in U.S.-Africa relations.
Through direct advocacy, public education, and collective prayer
and meditation, RAN seeks to change the policies of U.S. government
and institutions toward Africa.
Today, RAN seeks to support justice and peace in Africa with a
specific focus on removing the burden of illegitimate debt that
impedes Africa’s development and its struggle against HIV/AIDS.
With you as a member, the Religious Action Network can
provide a critically important voice of faith for Africa in the
U.S.
Please join today, and strengthen the fight for justice
in Africa!
A History of Struggle The work
of Africa Action’s RAN is grounded in the legacy of the Religious
Action Network founded by the American Committee on Africa (ACOA),
one of Africa Action’s predecessor organizations.
In 1988, Rev. Dr. Wyatt Tee Walker and Canon Frederick B. Williams
convened the ACOA Religious Action Network. A trailblazer for Africa,
Dr. Walker led RAN during the successful final years of the fight
against South African apartheid.
Why a RAN?
RAN accepts the role of the faith community in advocating for basic,
God-given human rights. RAN speaks out against harmful U.S. policies
toward Africa, and against the great disparities in resources, attention
and support given to Africa compared to other regions of the world.
The Religious Action Network Informs, Links,

INFORMS: RAN member congregations get information
about Africa and U.S.-Africa policy which the traditional media
does not provide. RAN updates its members via mailings, speaker
tours, congregational meetings and regional consultations.
LINKS: RAN congregations make direct links with
African leaders, organizations and congregations.
EMPOWERS: RAN engages member congregations in
nationwide campaigns designed to foster a positive shift in U.S.Africa
relations that will benefit Africans.
